Founded in 1936 by Herb Bryner, Garment Company began as a small operation with just 15 workers. By 1945, it had grown into a major manufacturing force operating a large factory in Hilo, Hawaii, with a workforce of 200 solidifying its place as a leading name in Aloha shirt production.
This particular design originates from the mid-1950s and is being faithfully reproduced for the first time by Sun Surf. The artwork draws inspiration from the annual migration of humpback whales, which travel to Hawaiian waters between December and March to mate, give birth and nurture their calves. The pattern captures the graceful routes of these whales as they journey toward the islands, creating a dynamic and meaningful all-over print.
