1. Waist
To measure the waist of denim, lay the jeans flat with the waistband straightened. Fasten any buttons. Use a measuring tape to measure straight across the waistband from edge to edge. Double this number to get the full waist size. For example, if the measurement across is 16 inches, the waist size is 32 inches.
2. Thigh
To measure the thigh based on the photobelow, first lay the denim flat on a smooth surface, ensuring the fabric is free from any folds or bunching. Begin the measurement from the crotch seam, where the inseam and outseam meet. Stretch the measuring tape straight across the thigh to the outer edge of the leg, following the method shown in the image. This gives you the flat width of the thigh, which can be doubled if you need the full circumference. The technique demonstrated in the photo shows how to measure at the widest point of the thigh for an accurate result.
3. Front Rise
To measure the front rise of denim, lay the jeans flat on a surface. Find the top of the waistband at the front and the spot where it meets the center seam. Use a measuring tape to measure straight down from this point to the seam where the legs meet. This distance is the front rise. Make sure the tape is straight.
4. Back Rise
To measure the back rise of denim, lay the jeans flat on a surface. Find the top of the waistband at the back and the spot where it meets the center back seam. Use a measuring tape to measure straight down from this point to the seam where the legs meet at the back. This distance is the back rise. Keep the tape measure straight.
5. Knee
To measure the knee on denim, first lay the jeans flat on a surface. Locate the inseam, which is the seam running down the inside of the leg. Measure 13 inches down from the crotch seam along this inseam. At this point, measure straight across the leg from one side to the other. This measurement is the knee width. Ensure the jeans are flat and the measuring tape is level for an accurate reading.
6. Leg Opening
To measure the leg opening of denim, lay the jeans flat on a surface. Smooth out any wrinkles. Measure straight across the bottom hem of one leg, from one edge to the other. This distance is the leg opening width. Be sure to measure across the widest part of the hem for the most accurate measurement.
7. Length/Outseam
To measure the outseam, which is the length of the jeans, lay them flat on a surface. Start at the top of the waistband at the side of the jeans. Measure straight down the side seam to the bottom hem of the leg. This distance is the outseam length. Make sure the tape measure is straight and follows the side seam closely for accuracy.
